Questions about funding
What the Foundation supports
The Foundation’s areas of support
The Foundation supports projects, meetings and conferences that facilitate West-East exchange and encounter. The central criteria are:
- dialogue and partnership
- equality of partners and reciprocity of programmes
- participation, responsibility and solidarity
- the sustainability of relationships and commitment
As they form a stable framework for sustainable cooperation, school and city partnerships are one of the focal points of our funding activities. We prefer to support specific projects with a clear thematic focus, implemented by the German group together with the foreign group in a results-oriented manner over a limited period of time. Trilateral meetings can also be funded.
Institutions established under German law and based in Germany can apply for funding from the Foundation for meetings that they organise directly with their foreign partners in their own name.
- Independent organisations that are generally organised in the legal form of registered associations and recognised as non-profit by the relevant tax office. Their activities must be based on the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. This includes non-profit youth and citizens’ associations, bilateral country forums, NGO networks and umbrella organisations that maintain relationships with social institutions in the Foundation’s partner countries and jointly implement international meetings and projects.
- Public institutions such as schools, cities and municipalities can also apply.
