On 17 May 2023, the West-Eastern Encounters Foundation invited guests to a roundtable discussion as part of the international art festival, ‘Berlin x Bishkek Art Weeks’, held at the former car dealership on Moritzplatz. The discussion was titled ‘Kyrgyzstan in view: Perspectives on Inter-Societal Cooperation’, Jelena Hoffmann (Chair of the Board of the Foundation), Ainura Tursumbaeva (Counsellor at the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic) and Dr Mahabat Sadyrbek , Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Ethnological Research and Deputy Chair of the German-Kyrgyz Cultural Association, discussed the current political situation in Kyrgyzstan, migration-related opportunities and challenges, and approaches to sustainable civil society work in and with Kyrgyzstan. Anna Kaiser, Managing Director of the West-Eastern Encounters Foundation, moderated the discussion.
Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to view an exhibition of photographs, paintings, sculptures and installations on the topic of migration. The West-Eastern Encounters Foundation is a partner of the Berlin x Bishkek Art Weeks, which took place in Berlin from 12 to 28 May.
