For the first time, the West-Eastern Encounters Foundation has supported a project in the field of German-Ukrainian medical cooperation in a humanitarian context. From 26 to 28 March 2025, Dr M. B. Yatsuliak completed an internship at Marienstift Arnstadt in Thuringia.
This initiative was conceived by Dr Martin Kummer, a member of the Foundation’s Executive Board, and was carried out in close collaboration with the participating clinics.
Dr Yatsuliak was also a guest at the SRH Zentralklinikum Suhl from 24 to 25 March 2025. During this time, he participated in several consultation hours at the Social Paediatric Centre (SPC), learned about the hospital’s collaboration with health insurance companies and providers in accordance with the German Social Code IX (‘Participation for people with disabilities’), and met with the entire SPC team, led by Medical Director Dr Carsten Wurst.
He received a warm welcome and there was great interest in the current situation in Ukraine. Dr Yatsuliak quickly convinced his German colleagues of his professional expertise, even participating in joint operations.
He also provided valuable insights into the situation in Ukraine, particularly regarding the structures and support that could benefit civil society in the future.
